SAKHAR is the creation of Reshma Lustman and Jessica Henry. While growing up in the outskirts of Mumbai, Resh fed her insatiable love for fruit and adventure by stealing guavas, tamarinds, and pomegranates from her neighbors. Some 8,000 miles away, Jessica lived in Columbia, SC where she spent the majority of her high school years helping build her family’s house and canning fruits and vegetables with her mother. By way of New York City, Resh eventually landed in Columbia herself. A fortuitous meeting at their children’s summer camp led Jess and Resh to discover they lived on the same street. Later that evening, Jessica arrived at Resh’s front door with challah and chicken soup, a homemade meal that served as the seed for a steadfast friendship and their company, SAKHAR.
